BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE NEW AMG GT 43 COUPÉ
I recently spent some time behind the wheel of the new AMG GT 43 Coupé.
Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder producing 421 hp and 500 Nm, it drives the rear wheels through a 9-speed
MCT gearbox, hitting 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and topping out at 174 mph. It’s lighter over the nose than the V8s, which
makes it sharper, and, as I experienced, quite a bit of fun when cornering!
Inside, you get AMG sports seats in Nappa leather, an 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen with premium navigation, AMG
Track Pace, wireless charging, and a memory function for seating positions – all as standard. The boot is properly
usable too, with a powered tailgate and folding rear seats (optional extras)
It runs on staggered 19-inch alloys and ceramic composite brakes, with options ranging from a fixed rear wing to a
panoramic roof and Burmester audio. The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package (£4,819.50) adds race mode, active aero and
yellow brake callipers.
While all of that is important, the way it feels to drive it is interesting too. It’s obviously a very powerful and fast car.
However, what I found is that it was comfortable and has more in-car tech than pretty much anything else I’ve driven
recently.
It effectively becomes a 174mph computer which acts exactly like your laptop or mobile phone, but does it while
hammering along the road at three-digit speeds!
It’s worth mentioning, though, that the price is a lot more than three digits… but it is a very cool car, so it probably
justifies its price tag.
