ENGINEERING AND DESIGN
At a time when cars were still competing with horse-drawn carriages, the Riley 9hp would have been something of an
attention-grabber.
THE ENGINE:
The Riley 9hp has a 1034cc, two-cylinder side-valve engine, producing, unsurprisingly, 9 horsepower. While this might
seem minimal by today9s standards, in 1905, it was a respectable figure for a lightweight, efficient car designed for both city
and country roads.
Technical Specifications of the 1905 Riley 9hp Engine:
Configuration: 2-cylinder inline, side-valve
Displacement: 1034cc
Power Output: 9 horsepower
Cooling System: Water-cooled
Ignition: Magneto ignition (now battery)
Fuel System: Gravity-fed carburetor
